Sensor Technology Ltd: The torque-current characteristics of a combined motor-generator developed for a Lotus-based hybrid car have been comprehensively mapped by a TorqSense digital torque sensor. Specialist electromagnetic design company Elektro Magnetix (EMX) of Brighton developed and tested the motor-generator for Lotus Engineering’s EVE(Efficient, Viable, Environmental) Hybrid. This is a technology demonstrator that is showcasing many of the medium term solutions that will be used to reduce vehicle emissions. Jonathan Bremner of EMX explains that the mapping was essential, but could not be done in-house. “We are a design house, so tend to sub-contact testing to other organisations. With this project we needed to plot out the full range of performance, but had only a tight time window to do all the work.” So EMX worked with a testhouse to design a simple yet effective test rig. sistema build-up con 3 trasduttori di forzaHBM: Per la taratura di trasduttori di forza in istituti nazionali e in laboratori di taratura industriali di alto livello vengono spesso impiegati i cosiddetti impianti di taratura a carico diretto. In caso di forze molto elevate dell’ordine di meganewton (MN) tali impianti sono estremamente ingombranti ed estremamente costosi. Un’alternativa agli impianti a carico diretto è la taratura tramite confronto con trasduttori di forza di riferimento. Qui si presenta però il problema per cui il trasduttore di riferimento deve essere a sua volta tarato e il relativo grosso impianto a carico diretto non esiste. Una soluzione per la misurazione e taratura di forze di compressione in un range fino a 3 MN è offerta da HBM con il cosiddetto sistema build-up BU18. Consiste di tre trasduttori di forza di precisione montati in parallelo, sui quali viene distribuita la forza. Se il sistema si basa ad esempio su tre trasduttori di forza con un carico nominale di 1 MN ciascuno, i singoli trasduttori possono essere tarati con un impianto a carico diretto che può produrre forze fino a 1 MN.
