Multi Fluid Multi Range gives flexibility and cost reduction |
| |
Digital
Mass Flow Meters and Controllers for gases of Bronkhorst High-Tech’s
Select series offer greater flexibility for user selection of both flow
ranges and gas types. As a result of their ‘Multi Fluid Multi Range’
feature in combination with a high rangeability (up to 187.5:1),
equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are able to drastically reduce the
variety of spare instruments they keep on stock and thus reduce the cost
of ownership. Users of MFCs in pilot plants or laboratories can rescale
their instruments on site, saving time and money for dismounting and
recalibration. For the convenience of the user, Bronkhorst High-Tech has
developed a free software tool called FlowTune. By hooking up the
instrument to the RS232 port of a lap-top and running this freeware
configuration tool, the selection of different flow ranges is as simple
as 1, 2, 3. The instruments, covering flow ranges from 0…1 mln/min up to
0…1670 ln/min, are available in two configurations. ... |

Scientific investigations prove adverse
effects from contamination in reflecting ultrasonic flowmeters are a
myth |
| |
Krohne:
Ultrasonic flowmeters for custody-transfer measurement of natural gas
are prone to contamination. There have been continuous allegations that
ultrasonic flowmeters with soiled reflectors will measure inaccurately
due to the contamination on the reflectors. Up to today, there have been
no test results that will withhold this allegation. Exhaustive
investigations at the EON Ruhrgas high-pressure gas testing facility in
Lintorf (Germany) on possible effects of contamination on ultrasonic
flowmeters (UFM) have irrefutably shown that the accuracy is not
affected by the reflection principle. Indeed, the investigations
substantiate a significant advantage of reflection technology; actually
compared to direct path measurement the level of contamination can be
recognised from the reflection properties of the acoustic signal. ... |

RLI Shaker – Rotary Level Indicator |
| |
4B
BRAIME Components LTD: The RLI “Shaker” rotary paddle switch is used
to detect high / low levels of bulk granular solids in bins, tanks and
silos. It can also be used to detect plug conditions in spouts, where
long life and failsafe detection is required. Utilizing a unique stepper
motor drive, the RLI “Shaker” rotates clockwise, then counter-clockwise
and then shakes to shed any excess material build up. If the paddle
rotation is impeded at any time by the bulk material then the electronic
circuit provides a signal for level indication or control. The RLI
“Shaker” uses fewer mechanical parts compared with standard rotary level
indicators. No gearbox or clutch is required as the stepper motor drive
is directly coupled to the output shaft and is practically
indestructible and cannot be damaged by forced or backwards rotation.
Also, an adjustable torque control allows ... |

With
the level switch LBFS, Baumer offers a cost-efficient and
reliable alternative to widely-used vibration level switches. The device
is able to detect the level of viscous or dry substances as well as
liquids and can be mounted in any position in tanks or pipelines. The
sensor is unaffected by flow, turbulence, bubbles, foam, and suspended
solids. As the sensor head is smooth and very small, even adhesive media
do not stick to it. The sensor’s short response time enables fast
filling processes as well as an accurate and reliable keeping of levels.
The level switch detects high and low levels in tanks and pipelines.
Furthermore, it can be used for overfill protection, dry running
protection of pumps and phase separation in oil-water mixtures. There
are many fields of applications: drinking water, wastewater, filtration,

The power in the wind, Identification of
permanent sensor bolts using Cognex DataMan 100 |
| |
Cognex
Corporation: Larger and larger wind power turbines are bringing the
forces of nature under control. The main structures, the powerful tower
and rotors, are supported by parts that play a less obvious, but no less
important role: bolts. As simple as it may look, precision tightening of
bolts is an art form of its own. Intellifast GmbH is now ensuring
perfect support in any weather using ultrasound permanent sensors and
Data Matrix codes. At first glance, all bolts look the same. But, when
measured by ultrasound, each bolt reveals its individual inner life and
a characteristic surface. It may only be in the µ range, but no two
bolts are exactly the same in shape or length. Scattered friction values
in the thread and under the head make it a real challenge to tighten
bolts with precision. As a result, tightening factors of 1.8 to 2.0
(twice the maximum force actually required for pre-tension) are
generally used for torque-controlled assembly for safety precautions. ... |

high-accuracy digital output over a broad temperature range. A perfect
tuning of the excitation and detection frequencies, as well as perfect
mechanical and electrical balancing of the dual masses result in very
low sensitivity to shock and vibrations. The sensing element consists of
a system of two identical masses suspended by means of asymmetric
springs to pedestals designed to minimize the mechanical and thermal
stress. Closed feed-back loops are used to control both the excitation
and detection modes. ... |

SHT21 Humidity Sensor – AEC-Q100
reliability confirmed again |
| |
Sensirion’s
new SHT21 humidity and temperature sensor has now been qualified in
accordance with the AEC-Q100 automotive standard. This confirms the
outstanding reliability, stability and robustness of the sensor, which
has been in regular production since April 2010. Successful AEC-Q100
qualification is remarkable in the sense that humidity sensors, unlike
fully encapsulated electronic components, are constantly exposed to
their surroundings and sensitive to ambient conditions. During the
qualification process, the SHT21 was put through the series of tests
specified by AEC-Q100. In the High Temperature Operating Lifetime (HTOL)
test, the sensor was operated at 125°C for 1000 hours to test its aging
characteristics. The 96-hour Unbiased Highly Accelerated Stress Test (UHST)
at 130°C and 85% relative humidity confirmed the sensor’s stress
resistance. Furthermore, the package was tested in the Temperature
Cycling (TC) test with 1000 cycles between -50°C and +150°C, which
measures the compatibility of the packaging material with the chip and
the substrate. The series concluded with the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests, which indicate the
robustness of the sensor with regard to these two parameters. The SHT21
humidity sensor passed all of the tests ... |

New hall sensor for applications in
rolling stock |
| |
Baumer’s
new MTRM 16 hall sensor was specifically developed for the contact-free
pulse detection of fast-spinning gear wheels. With its robust metal
housing it is predestined for the use in harsh conditions. The sensor
was particularly optimized for applications in railway gear boxes and
therefore meets all of the demanding requirements for the employment in
this industry. The very compact hall sensor picks up the rotational
direction as well as rpm speed of gear wheels with up to 20,000 pulses
per second. Due to the non-contact measuring principle, the sensor is
maintenance-free, thereby guaranteeing long-term trouble-free use. At
the same time it is very robust and temperature-resistant. Thanks to the
completely sealed and coated all-metal housing, the sensor may be
exposed continuously to gear box lubrication oils. Its optimized housing
design with integrated O-ring allows fast and easy installation. The
notably robust housing design qualifies the sensor not only for the
direct integration into the railway gear box or the engine ... |

New Force-Displacement Evaluation Unit
DMF-P A310 Universal Type 4740… for NC Joining Modules with Numerous
Practical Advantages |
| |
With
Kistler's DMF-P A310 Universal Type 4740A… a new
force-displacement evaluation unit for electromechanical NC joining
systems is introduced. It is a development of the widespread DMF-P A300
NCF Type 4734A…, which has proven uniquely effective in complex
industrial joining processes. The operating concept with clear,
user-friendly guidance is along the same lines as the previously
marketed force-displacement unit DMF-P A300 NCF. The enhancements have
focused on optimizing and speeding up system commissioning for faster
installation at lower cost. The integral EtherNet/IP master replaces
four cables and significantly reduces cabling and installation work. Its
functionality allows the servo controller to be operated and controlled
directly by the DMF-P A310 Universal. Faster data transmission even at
program changeovers shortens cycle times. During commissioning the
system can still be run without the master control system being fully
functional. Integral control allows quick and easy setting up for all
common control systems without any special function block. Further
optional fieldbuses such as EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet IO and DeviceNet are
available for this purpose. The system comes with a Profibus interface
as standard. Connection of an external displacement sensor ... |

Patented SG hole drilling rosette for
accurately determining residual stresses |
| |
The
new RY61M SG hole drilling rosette that HBM is now marketing for
this hole drilling method has a patented structure, which appreciably
increases the accuracy of residual stress measurement. The so-called
hole drilling method is the one most frequently used to determine
residual stresses in components. With the hole drilling method, strain
gages (SG) determine the deformation, also called the relaxation strain,
all around a drill hole, while a drill hole is being inscribed. Hole
drilling rosettes with three SG measuring grids are normally used for
the hole drilling method. The eccentricity of the hole is a possible
source of error with this method. The new RY61M SG hole drilling rosette
uses six measuring grids instead of the customary three, to further
improve the accuracy of this process. The hole drilling rosette
measuring grids are arranged around the drill hole, with each of the
opposite SG pairs being interconnected so that their signals ... |
